December Goals

Goal 1: potty training.
By the end of January I hope to have Matilda completely potty trained. I was hoping to complete this task in December, but with travel and the holidays, the inconsistency would only set us back. Mat's new winter class schedule will allow time every morning, right when she wakes up, to sit on the potty. Obviously there will be additional time during the day as well.
I have been doing a lot of reading on potty training, especially during this 6 hour flight to Los Angeles that I am currently on. Apparently, the use of training pants can actually hinder the child's independence when using the potty and therefore I think I am going to stay away from them.
I am going to talk to J and B about getting Mat a kid-sized seat for the toilets in the house; specifically the toilet in the kitchen as she seems to be particularly interested in that one. Also, big girl underwear will make a great Christmas present.

Goal 2: Number recognition
Matilda is very good at counting, but she does not connect the numeral symbol to the number. When I'm working on her counting board with her, we will begin counting the manipulatives and she will just keep on counting even though there may not be any more koalas or butterflies in my hand.

Goal 3: Colors
I intensely worked on colors with Matilda over my first few weeks, but I have since taken a step back on them. She now seems to have more of an interest in what color things are. She will hold something up and ask me what color it is. It's taking a lot of repetition but I think that she's really getting it. She consistently correctly answers yellow, green, and purple. Then again this could be because the first and last are hers and mine favorite colors and the middle one is the color of her least favorite vegetable: green beans.
