Long Week

1/20/2012

This week seems forever long. Overall it was a good week though.

Yesterday I had to give Matilda a time-out because she was very naughty. After I gave her a cup of milk, she told me that she didn't want it and then took it and dumped it into her bib. Normally a warning comes before dealing out a time-out, but this was an in-the-moment decision. I kind of laughed when she did it to be honest. I was just soo shocked by how she took the matter into her own hands.

I was really impressed by Matilda during her play-date yesterday. On two different occasions she called attention to herself by saying "Hey friends"!!! I'm soo proud! this is the first time that she has referred to other kids as her friends to their faces. Also, this is the first time she has intentionally called attention to herself to share her idea with the group. She wanted to show Stella and Mateo something that she had made with the play-dough!

This weekend I'm going to create a play-group for Thursday mornings. I was going to have the first play-date next Thursday but we are doing a trial-run with a pre-school interview with Matilda on that day. I'm excited to get a bunch of kids and care-givers together to do some cooking, crafts, games, and mostly free-play. There will hopefully be anywhere from 4-8 kids.

p.s. Check out this video. It is HILARIOUS! She was WAY too excited about knocking over that castle of blocks.
Well that's all for this week.
Sarah came over for a play-date on Friday afternoon
Matilda was letting Sarah try out the trampoline that Santa brought her for Christmas lol
Building a castle at nest. The Video above is of her knocking down this castle.
This thing was SOO wobbly! I couldn't belive how tall she made it before I knocked it down in trying to put another block on. Clearly she has better spacial awareness than I do when it comes to buidling with blocks.
"cooking" together. Today we made grilled cheese. Some recipes I make allow for more interaction on Matilda's part but with this one she was mostly observing.
Sparkly monkey was taking a nap next to the stove in his new robe. It matches one that B got for Matilda.
These are Mat's friends Stella and Mateo. We were sitting at this table when Matilda yelled out her "Hey friends" comment. She gets along really well with them (as she does with most kids who are 6mo-1 yr older than her).
She had a GREAT time during this play-date!

Getting Sick?

1/18/2012

So after Mat fell asleep at 7:30!!! Last night, she then proceeded to sleep a total of 13 hours. She had a good, but groggy, morning and then took a 2.5 hour nap in the afternoon!!! All she wanted to do after nap was rest. B and I were able to get her excited about an art project and so we made puppets!

Today turned out to be a beautiful day. I was expecting it to be soo much colder. After music this morning we went to Starbucks so I could get an iced mocha and Matilda ate her snack (her appetite was smaller than usual but she made up for that by eating 2 pieces of pizza for lunch). After Starbucks we went to Three Bears Park and played for nearly a half hour. I hadn't been to that park with Mat since before our early December California trip! It was awesome to get some fresh air, especially since B has some sort of flu/cold and Mat may also be coming down with something.

Below are some pictures from today.

Art Start on a rainy day

1/17/2011

Today was a very cold and rainy day, but we went out in it anyways. I am very thankful for the clear stroller umbrella that J and B purchased for the stroller. It kept me SO much drier than if I had just worn my raincoat.

Below you will see pictures of the different projects we did today. I must admit I stacked the balls of clay but I thought the picture looked too cool to not include it in the post.

New Year!

1/15/2012

The new year has started great. We had a great time in Chicago and managed two airport adventures without any major tantrums!!!! Looks like Matilda's monkey roller-bag was a great idea. She loved towing it through the airport.

Our first full week in Philadelphia was an eventful one. Here's what Mat's schedule looks like this semester:

Mondays:
10:00-10:50: Nest Music @ Nest. (nestphilly.com)
11:00-12:30: Two Curious Birds @ Nest
5:15-6:00: Lil' Tumblers All-Comers @ Philly Kids Gym (Phillykidsgym.com)

Tuesdays:
10:00-10:45: StoryTime @ Charles Santore Branch of the Philadelphia Free Library
11:00-12:00: Art Start @ Philly Art Center
4:30-6:00: Playdate with Sarah Tacobman (Daughter of Wharton colleague)

Wednesdays:
10:30-11:15: The Music Class @ Old Pine Community Center
4:00-5:00: Barnes and Noble Story Hour

Thursdays:
No classes
This is a day I will use for various field-trips and play-dates. This past week, Thursday was very rainy so we went to the Please Touch Museum (pictures below). This coming week I am either taking Matilda to see a play of Charlotte's Web or going to the Philadelphia Zoo.

Fridays:
11:00-12:00: Junior Varsity All-Stars @ Nest (sports class)

As you can see, Matilda's schedule is full of soo many exciting things. She LOVES art and music. We constantly have music playing in the house for her. Her current obsession is a Sesame Street album focusing on Bert and Ernie.

VERY happy to be back at nest!

Betsey let Matilda pick out her own tights:)

Max loves to lay at Matilda's feet while she is at her table. I think it's the only real time that he's mellow!

"I'm taking a rest" at the Philly InMovement open gym. Matilda recieved a trampoline identical to this one for christmas.

Trying on the rainforest explorer hat at the Please Touch Museum!

First REAL snow! It melted off around 9am but it stuck around long enough for Matilda to see it! She was pretty excited. She kept yelling "It snowed! It snowed!"

Her expression here cracks me up. She is giving the dirtiest look at who knows what.

Enjoying our snack OUTSIDE on a JANUARY morning!!! Such a beautiful day!

Zoe looks terrified in this picture!!!

I can't say we are completely on the potty-training wagon, but we're getting close. This week Matilda and I made a Potty-training sticker chart. Of course we also made a miniature one for sparkly monkey. She's very excited about the possibility of earning stickers for her sticker chart especially since 3 stickers = one juice. As of friday she didn't have any stickers yet, but I'm hoping that as she continues to develop over the next few months, she'll become more and more biologically aware and earn lots of stickers.

Matilda selecting rockets for the rocket launcher at the Please Touch Museum!
While I'm making lunch, Matilda is allowed 3-5 minutes on my iPhone to do education apps or look at pictures. She's really big on drawing H's lately. Here's an example of a few of them! On Thursday she even drew an 'A' and a 'D' on her peice of paper!!

Mat trying on the sweater her grammy knitted for her!
